Empower People With Disabilities - Ananthapuri Hospitals

DISABILITY IS NOT INABILITY

Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
This year’s theme is to empower people with disabilities and ensure their inclusiveness and equality. But the question is, how can we do that?

Inclusion of disabled people has one aim: to identify and remove any impediment that hinders an individual’s ability to fully participate in the society.

First things first, accept people with disabilities and say no to all types of silent discrimination against them. There are so many things we can do to make our public places more inclusive to people with disabilities: providing wheelchair services, building ramps, building accessible toilets, introducing braille system for ticket bookings, training ourselves in basic sign language, and educating employees on how to handle mentally disabled patients are a few good ways to start. Most importantly, remember that disability is not inability. We need to remove the stigma that people with disabilities are “less capable” of doing things.

People with disabilities should be able to have a hand in our society, in the same way as an individual without disabilities.
Let us join hands in making this world a better and more inclusive place.
