Dengue fever symptoms - Ananthapuri Hospitals, Trivandrum

Along with the smell of the damp earth and the refreshing showers, monsoon brings along with it the unnecessary evil too - The Dengue Fever, caused by mosquitoes! To all of you who think “It’s just a mosquito!” - it’s time for you to rethink. The diseases they spread have killed more people than all the wars in history.

In July alone, around 33 confirmed dengue cases and 57 suspected dengue cases were reported in Thiruvananthapuram. The villain here is the female Aedes aegypti mosquito - the main vector that transmits the viruses that cause dengue. Most of the Aedes mosquitoes have white and black striped bodies. They acquire the dengue virus while feeding on the blood of an infected person. The viruses that the infective Aedes mosquito carries are passed on to humans through its bite. And this single bite is enough to cause Dengue! It is also important to note that dengue fever cannot be transmitted directly from one person to another.

If not treated at the right time, the symptoms of dengue can cause life-threatening complications such as shock, breathing difficulty, heavy bleeding and even death.
