
Transfusion Medicine at AHRI offers 24 hour blood transfusion service with facility of 100 percentage blood component preparation provided by dedicated and competent staff. The blood bank has fully automated equipment for appropriate screening of blood units for various transfusion transmitted diseases using fourth generation ELISA kits (Unique in Kerala).
Q) Who can give blood?
A) Any one between the ages of 18 and 60 who are fit and healthy.
Q) How often can I give blood?
A) 4 times a year this comes roughly 3 months.
Q) Will I be asked hundreds of questions before I give blood?
A) Yes, we will be asking you a number of questions but don’t worry- we promise to get through it all as quickly as possible and there is a good reason for it. Our primary concern is that giving blood won’t affect your health in any way. We also have to make sure that your blood is safe for patients. We do need your cooperation in answering these questions and of course all your details will be treated in the strictest confidence.
Q) How much blood will be taken?
A) If you are 45 Kgs upto 55 Kgs in weight then 350 ml and if you are above 55 Kgs then 450 ml will be drawn out. However there is no need to bother as it is only 10% of blood is taken out.
Q) How will giving blood affect my health?
A) If you are fit and healthy, you shouldn’t experience any problems whatsoever.
Q) What if I develop an infection after I donate?
A) The needle which is used for collection is attached to the blood bag itself and is disposed off and there is no chance of infection if you donate blood.
Q) What will happen to the blood I donate?
A) The blood you donated will be separated into different components and tested for various diseases and finally it will be given to needy patients.
Q) What should I eat after donation?
A) You can have a lot of fluid in order to replenish and you can resume all normal activities after
Q) How can I donate blood in AHRI blood bank?
A) It’s a simple process Our MSW will give you a simple questionnaire card get yourself registered and under go a very simple screening process through a questionnaire. You will be welcome as a blood donor if found fit and healthy to donate blood.
